The BLACKROLL® Material: What Is Our Fascia Roller Actually Made Of?
The abbreviation EPP stands for expanded polypropylene. Never heard of it? We’ll tell you more about the material used in our fascia products.
Expanded polypropylene is a thermoplastic foam that combines high structural strength with low weight. That sounds pretty technical, but it’s not that complicated. First of all, EPP is a virtually unbreakable and dimensionally stable material . For our EPP products, we’ve developed different levels of firmness to help you achieve the best possible results in your fascia massage. We work closely with doctors, scientists, and athletes to ensure you get the best possible results when using our products.

100% recyclable
Our EPP products are 100% recyclable. This means they can be fully returned to the raw material production process for reuse. However, it usually takes a very long time for EPP molded parts to reach the end of their life cycle. And when that time comes, there are collection and recycling systems in place for EPP to recycle it as a raw material. At this time, we unfortunately cannot yet offer a way for you to return fascia products that you no longer wish to use. We are currently working with our manufacturer on a suitable solution to close the loop ourselves.
Our black fascia products already contain up to 30% recycled material.
We’re constantly working to increase the proportion of recycled material and to implement this for our colorful fascia tools as well. We’re currently conducting tests with material that contains 100% recycled content.
Hygienic and Temperature-Resistant
Our products, which are made of 100% EPP, can be:
- clean with soap and water
- clean with conventional disinfectants
- and even put in the dishwasher, since the material retains its shape up to 110°C.
Pretty cool, right?

Free of harmful substances & ultra-light
EPP is free of chemical blowing agents and propellants. This makes the plastic highly environmentally friendly. Incidentally, EPP is also frequently used in the medical field, the food industry, and the automotive industry.
EPP is 96% air.
The material is the very definition of lightness. So you can always have your fascia tools with you, even when you’re on the go.

Whered ’s EPP come fr?
EPP is a byproduct of petroleum extraction. We source the small EPP beads from leading global manufacturers. These manufacturers produce the beads in Europe. Petroleum is used very sparingly in the production of this material, as EPP consists largely of air—96% air, to be exact. Throughout the entire production of our products, we use only steam and pressure. These generate sufficient heat during the manufacturing process to fuse the EPP beads together. Therefore, no adhesives are used at all. Even the cooling water is purified without chemicals and reused. In addition to the water cycle, energy efficiency is also prioritized in steam generation during production.
And to sum it up?
We chose EPP because the material is:
- is durable, dimensionally stable, and of high quality.
- Is 100% recyclable and can therefore be fully reintegrated into the raw material cycle.
- Meets our high standards for the product’s perfect performance and effectiveness.
Nevertheless, we are aware that EPP is a plastic. We are currently working with our manufacturer to further increase the recycled content of our products (all black fascia products already contain up to 30% recycled material) and are evaluating ways for our company to close the raw material cycle on our own.
