Two athletic powerhouses and true recovery pros

Two athletic powerhouses and true recovery pros

TV sports anchor Nele Schenker and rowing star Hannes Ocik visited us at the European Championships in Munich.

We still absolutely love looking back on the unforgettable time we had at the 2022 European Championships in Munich—but one encounter made us especially happy:

The passionate TV sports reporter Nele Schenker visited us during the competitions with her boyfriend, the successful rowing ace Hannes Ocik, in the BLACKROLL® Recovery Area right inside the Olympic Stadium.

Armed with plenty of expertise and hundreds of tools, we helped countless athletes relax and recover their muscles. Nele and Hannes spent a whole day watching us at work—and of course, we gave them shoulder massages. And their legs and arms, too. From casual relaxation with a Fascia Gun massage to a fun workout with our resistance bands, the athletic couple didn’t miss a thing. It was pure energy!

What a career sprint

A quick introduction for anyone who doesn’t know them yet: Nele Schenker has been hosting various soccer shows since 2015, such as “Bundesliga aktuell” on Sport 1; she worked as a host on Sky Sport News HD with her own fitness show; and since the 2021–22 season, she has been hosting various Bundesliga shows on Sky. Before her career as a TV sports reporter, the Munich resident was active in other fields: as a competitive athlete in track and field, the heptathlon, and hurdle sprinting.

Hannes is a three-time world rowing champion and has already won two Olympic silver medals in Tokyo and Rio. Both have been incorporating BLACKROLL® tools and products, as well as training and recovery routines, into their daily lives for a very long time. This experience was clearly evident when the two participated in our on-site workshops at the Creative Roof and on the rooftop terrace of BMW Welt.

Is being a sports reporter a dream job?

Nele gave us a charming interview with personal insights.

Spoiler: Yes, Nele has found her dream job because she’s been able to stay true to the sport she loves. By that, she means not only hurdling but, above all, the fascinating world of sports in general. She enjoys every moment of her job—from quiet, intimate interviews to the loud sideline reports from the big Bundesliga soccer stadiums. For this dream job, she’s happy to put up with certain hurdles, such as frequent weekend work or irregular daily schedules, which are very challenging for her workout routine.
