Daniel studied sports science at the Technical University of Munich and discovered his love for sports at an early age.
He took the advanced sports course in high school and subsequently deepened his knowledge at the university. This scientific foundation forms the basis for his understanding of training theory, recovery, and performance optimization.
Through ongoing dialogue with sports scientists, coaches, and medical experts, he stays up to date on the latest research. His expertise in sports science flows directly into his training philosophy—evidence-based and, at the same time, grounded in extensive practical experience.
In 2014, he discovered trail running, and as the distances he ran grew longer and longer, he deepened his knowledge of training science, training methods, injury prevention, nutrition, and mental strategies for extreme ultra-long-distance runs in the mountains exceeding 100 kilometers.
Daniel is a versatile endurance athlete who has pushed his limits in several disciplines and gained valuable experience:
Ultra-Trail Running: As an ultra-runner, Daniel loves long runs in the mountains and has already participated in extreme mountain races such as the Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail. He enjoys venturing off the beaten path and deliberately seeks out challenges in difficult terrain and weather conditions. He feels right at home over distances beyond the marathon and knows firsthand what it takes to succeed in ultramarathons—from structured training to mental strength, you’ll learn all about it in his experience report, “Road to Ultra.”
Road Cycling: Daniel is also in his element on a road bike. Among other races, he has participated in the legendary 24-hour Rad am Ring race at the Nürburgring, where he conquered the “Green Hell” with the BLACKROLL Team. Long rides and demanding climbs are second nature to him. His experience in road cycling ranges from endurance and interval training to optimal recovery after hours-long rides.
Mountain biking: In the mountains, Daniel is at home not only on foot but also on two wheels. Even at a young age, he rode his mountain bike across the Alps. He values mountain biking for its blend of technique, fitness, and the experience of nature. The trail and technical experience he’s gained complements his running profile and gives him insights into other facets of endurance sports, such as riding on varied terrain and the importance of coordination and muscular endurance.
Triathlon: Thanks to his broad-based endurance background, Daniel also has knowledge of triathlon, which he was able to demonstrate during a “little run” with Jonas Deichmann. The combination of swimming, cycling, and running requires sophisticated training management—something Daniel understands well thanks to his education in sports science and his own training experiences.
He is interested in training management in triathlon and the balance among the three disciplines, even though his personal focus lies on mountain sports and running. His insights into recovery and injury prevention also come into play here, as triathletes in particular benefit from efficient recovery and fascial training. This even makes it possible to run the 50th BWM Berlin Marathon relatively unprepared.
Daniel is passionate about unlocking human potential —both physically and mentally. On a personal level, he is deeply engaged with self-optimization and current research on longevity, as well as the topic of mental health.
He is convinced that mental strength and physical performance go hand in hand. This conviction is also reflected in his own lifestyle: He constantly strives to test and push his limits—whether in sports, at work, or in his personal life.
Despite his full-time job and demanding training regimen, he maintains a healthy work-life balance and finds ways to juggle family, hobbies, and his career.
