Prof. Stefan Grau is a professor of biomechanics and movement at the Center for Health and Performance at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. His long-standing research focuses on the development and prevention of overuse injuries in sports (across various disciplines) as well as the development of functional footwear (running shoes, safety shoes, and children’s shoes). In recent years, Stefan Grau has also been conducting research as part of an international project on how to ensure the long-term sustainability of elite sports during adolescence. In addition, he implemented a research project on the prevention of common running-related injuries. The use of BLACKROLL fascia products played a central role in this project.

How do sports-related injuries develop?

“The development of overuse injuries in sports is complex. An individual combination of risk factors—for example, from the fields of biomechanics, training load, clinical factors, psychology, and recovery management—typically leads to overuse injuries in sports and often results in the cessation of athletic activity.”

How can running-related injuries be prevented or reduced:

“The occurrence of overuse injuries in running can be significantly reduced through targeted strength training combined with foam rolling. This should be done twice a week in addition to regular running training.”
